Patronage

Patronage of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum

The Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim has granted patronage to our Foundation. Dr. Piotr M. A. Cywiński, Director of the Museum, expressed his appreciation for the Foundation’s work and goals, stating:

“The activity focused on preserving the heritage of the victims of the numerous sub-camps of Auschwitz deserves great recognition. The Foundation of Memory Sites Near Auschwitz-Birkenau provides an opportunity to complete the history of Auschwitz, especially the one that took place away from the main camp, yet is deeply marked by many human tragedies. Today, we all need memory, just as memory needs all of us.”

This recognition is a great honor, distinction, and a tremendous vote of confidence for us.

The Foundation’s primary goal is to protect the heritage of the sub-camps of Auschwitz. The interference of the camp authorities in the surrounding space was systematic and deliberate. These activities led to the creation of several sub-camps that formed the economic support for the main camp, extending far beyond the boundaries of the post-war Museum. Caring for the remnants of these sub-camps is the foundation of our activities, aligning with the narrative of the entire Auschwitz complex.

The idea that unites the Museum’s and the Foundation’s efforts is memory — memory of the victims, of Auschwitz-Birkenau, and of the sub-camps. The Foundation aims to establish the sub-camps as public memory sites where people suffered and died, and their persecutors were relentless. Building this memory helps to complete the picture of the vast scale of operations at the Auschwitz-Birkenau death factory. Dr. Cywiński’s words, “Today, we all need memory, just as memory needs all of us,” hold a universal meaning and encapsulate all efforts aimed at remembrance.

The Museum’s patronage is particularly significant to our Foundation. The intellectual and ideological support from the Museum guarantees the proper implementation of our future projects and tasks. The Board of the Foundation expresses its gratitude to Dr. Piotr M. A. Cywiński and the Museum for granting us this patronage.
