On the day of 3rd of July Municipal officials from Brzeszcze and the Foundation signed a notary act of transfer of land specified in the Resolution No. XXXIX/395/14 of the day of 24th of April 2014 by the City Council Brzeszczach. The Foundation received in use for 25 years the building school in Bor, which in the years 1942 to 1943 housed the heaviest penal company of women from Auschwitz-Birkenau. In the middle of 1943, there were accomodated women from Frauen Konzetrationslager Birkenau and created heavy commandos carrying out work in the field, forest, deepening ditches and ponds.
Hard work, starvation portions of food and constant harassment and physical punishment meant, that in the system of Auschwitz camp, subcamp in Budy – Bor was one of those places that marked the tragic fate of women. For about 90 prisoners, mostly French Jewish women, stay in this sub-camp turned out to be tragic. In the forementioned building, on the night of 5th of October 1942 they were brutally murdered by the prisoners capo and SS-Manns using batons, axes and similar tools.
The school building in Bor is second after the bath building in Jawischowitz sub-camp, that our Foundation took care of. In recent years it housed a kindergarten, which substantially influenced the internal architectural layout of the building, and a limited form of commemoration of the victims. Currently, our Foundation conducts its work on developing a documentation system reproducing the original object. Completion of these works is planned for early next year. Prepared documentation will enable the next steps related to the revitalization of the object and its adaptation for the purposes of exhibition and education.
As part of its activities, the Foundation will take care of this place, tell its story and protect it. Cooperation with the authorities of the Brzeszcze community is important support for us and confidence reposed in us is the motivation to work harder and act further.
