January 27, 2025 is the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the German Nazi concentration and
extermination camp KL Auschwitz and its sub-camps, it is also the International Holocaust
Remembrance Day. The ceremonies related to this day were held in Brzeszcze, at the Memorial Site the historic building of the former Women’s Penal Company of KL Auschwitz-Bor/Budy Frauen

By laying symbolic wreaths and lighting candles, in silence and concentration, tribute was paid to the victims of the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp KL Auschwitz-Birkenau and its sub-camps. Auschwitz is a shocking testimony to the lack of value of human life, a warning and an obligation for current and future generations to always respect human dignity regardless of the circumstances.

We therefore thank all those who seek the truth and tell about the victims and perpetrators of this inhumane crime – said Agnieszka Molenda – Kopijasz, president of the Foundation of Memory Sites Near Auschwitz-Birkenau, during the ceremony.

Tribute to the murdered was paid by: The Voivode of Małopolska, Mr. Krzysztof Jan Klęczar, laid a wreath on behalf of the Prime Minister, Mr. Donald Tusk; the Mayor of Brzeszcze, Mr. Radosła Szot, together with the City Council, including the Chairwoman of the City Council, Ms. Danuta Socha, and councillors: Ms. Bogusława Dudzic, Mr. Jacek Wawro, Mr. Krzysztof Bielenin, Mr. Maciej Puzoń; on behalf of the Institute of National Remembrance, the Krakow Branch; the Deputy Director of the Krakow Branch of the IPN, Mr. Michał Wenklar; on behalf of the Mayor of the Oświęcim Commune, the Deputy Mayor of the Oświęcim Commune, Ms. Halina Musiał, together with Councillor Krzysztof Harmata; on behalf of the Military Recruitment Centre in Oświęcim, Second Lieutenant Katarzyna Witkowska and Corporal Natalia Herma; Mr. Maciej Puzoń, Chairman of the Neighbourhood Council No. 5 in Brzeszcze; a delegation from the Pokolenia Koło Association in Brzeszcze; delegation of the Non-Party Forum of Brzeszczot, residents of the Brzeszcze Commune and the Foundation of Memory Sites Near Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Memory Sites Near Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Medical and technical support provided by the Volunteer Fire Department in Bór.

At the end of the event, the participants visited the permanent exhibition in the building housing female prisoners and a new temporary exhibition with items from a large donation from last Monday that our Foundation received for its collection of over five hundred original items from the times when the KL Auschwitz-Birkenau camp complex was in operation.
