Posted on 2016-12-122024-09-09

On the day of 3rd of December 1944, seventy two years ago, in Brzeszcze – Bór stayed in Zdrowak family house four guerillas from the „Sosienki” unit, they were escapees from KL Auschwitz.

Betrayed by one of the SS soldiers, with whom they pertracted about weapons shipment, they have been surrounded by SS. Zdrowak house was cordoned by few cars with soldiers, they gathered around and started shooting from all directions.

Killed in Action:
Stanisław Furdyna, no. 193 – born 1916 in Tuszów Narodowy near Mielec, governm, ent sector worker, reservist from Polish Army
Stanisław Kwiatkowski, no. 12374 – born 1916 in Brok, Ostrowskie county, Masovian voievodship
Marian Szayer, no 17036 – Born 1918 in Stary Sącz, law student from Jagiellonian University in Cracow
Arrested family of Zdrowak’s – Anna Zdrowak, her husband Jan and two daughters: Zofia and Emilia, flatmate Edmund Kluczny and all the men from neighbourhood as hostages.
Captured was also Antoni Wykrt, no 613 – born 1919 in Nawojowa near Nowy Sącz, Polish Army reservist oficer. Escapee from KL Auschwitz was thrown on a truck meant to go back to Auschwitz for public execution, during the ride he managed to jump off and escape.

After two weeks, hostages have been set free from KL Auschwitz, and the Zdrowak family and mr Kluczny were put into arrest, everyone into different cell, that is in the bunkers of block 11. After one of the brutal questionings Zofia Zdrowak, held in cell 1 in the basement of bock 11, believieng that she is going to be executed scratched on the wall using a hair pin „Zofia Zdrowak, age 16” – this etching exists to this day.
Anna Zdrowak fled with her daughters from the prisoners column along the route of „Death March” in the vicinity of Rybnik, her husband Jan Zdrowak has been evacuated to KL Mauthausen and gave his life there.
Edmund Kluczny was also sent to KL Mauthausen, survived the camp and lived to liberation.

Since several tens of years, in the bulding of former Female Penal Company (Bór/Budy) which is now the main office of our Foundation, there is an exhibition in form of large info boards with photos and descriptions of that skirmish at Bór. This exposition, as well as other exhibitions in the building are open for visitors, after earlier reservations using our website.
