72nd anniversary of KL Auschwitz liberation

Posted on 2017-01-272024-09-09

27th of January 2017 is already 72nd anniversary of KL Auschwitz camp complex liberation.

In the morning, representatives of Our Foundation, along with local authorities and local organisations, placed wreaths at the monument „In memory of martyrs fallen in fight fith fascism” in the comunal park at Kościuszki street and at the monument „To the victims of KL Jawischowitz subcamp” in KL Auschwitz-Jawischowitz subcamp in comunal park at Dworcowa street. Next, Our Foundation took part in the ceremony which took place in National Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau, where we placed our wreath at the Monument for Victims at the area of KL Auschwitz II-Birkenau.

This year, for the first time, thanks to engagement of mr Director of National Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau, mr Piotr Cywiński, we’ve been able to co-organize part of the ceremony. National Museum has set up in front of the „Sauna” building (building in which newcomers to the camp have been registered, and later on as priosners pushed into german nazi camp machine), where this year’s anniversary took place, a special roll-up about the memory sites that Our Foundation takes care of. Whats more, in the coaches that brought guests to the ceremony there were informations about second happening, which took place in Brzeszcze-Bór.

At 14:30 in the office of Our Foundation – by the building of ex female penal comapny KL Auschwitz-Bór/Budy in Brzeszcze Bór, on the site of one of more than 40 subcamps which functioned around KL Auschwitz, took place second part of the ceremmony commemorating 72nd anniversary of KL Auschwitz complex liberation.

By placing symbolic wreaths and lighting candles, in silence and focus, we honored victims of „Death machine” which was KL Auschwitz-Birkenau and its’ subcamps.

Organisators of this ceremony were Mayor of Brzeszcze mrs Cecylia Ślusarczyk, and Foundation of Memory Sites Near Auschwitz-Birkenau

Chairman of the Foundation, in her speech, reminded gathered people that 27th of January is also National Day of Commemoration In Memory of Holocaust Victims, and our duty is to remember about death and suffering of thousands of victims of ex german nazi concentration camps, quote: Let us remember, so this memory will be a warning for us, so that this inhumane experience which was auschwitz never happens in the future”.

At the ceremony were present: Director of polish Prime Minister’s office, Ambassador of Franse Mr Pierre Levy, Ambassadorof Germany Mr Rolf Nikel, General Counsellor of France Mr Frédéric de Touchet and of Germany Mr Michael Groß, Authorities of Brzeszcze along with Mayor, representative of Voiewodship office in Cracow, Vice Director of National Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau, Brzeszcze municipal Counselors, Representatives of church, schools, non-governmental organisations and citizens of Brzeszcze.

After the ceremony, everyone interested was free to visit the ehxibition in the bulding and walk the educational path outside.

We sincerely thank everyone present.
